Seaborne: Solo Exhibition by Fee Dickson - Bass Rock Gallery, Dunbar, East Lothian

Conversation flowed as guests enjoyed and discussed the atmospheric seascapes of local artist Fee Dickson. Inspired by the beaches of her hometown Dunbar and the surrounding beaches Fee Dickson’s paintings capture sky and sea in an alluring and captivating style. Beaches that are enticing and urging you to step on those still, smooth sands contrast with frothing stormy suds of waves. Instantly recognisable local landmarks place the works geographically. Belhaven, Dunbar, North Berwick and iconic features of the Forth give the paintings a tangible location.

Dickson, a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art with a Master of Architecture degree, she has been painting full time since 2014.

This exhibition sees her realise a childhood dream. Growing up in Dunbar she recalls her ambition as a child was to be able to paint the sea and beach that meant so much to her. Later, having moved away from her hometown she describes how greatly she missed that connection to the sea.

“Growing up by the sea was immensely important to me. So much so that when I moved to the Borders, I’d climb up a hill just so I could get the tiniest glimpse of the sea 15 miles away.”

Now living in nearby North Berwick, the beaches and sea are calling again and inspiration for Fee Dickson is once  more surrounding her.
